This privacy notice explains how personal data is processed when you use the Fluently website and the Fluently Android app.

Scope of this notice
This notice covers:
- the Fluently website hosted under

- support requests, including account deletion requests sent by email
Legal bases
Depending on the situation, processing is based in particular on:
- Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR, where processing is necessary to provide app features you request
- Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR, where consent is requested, especially for advertising choices where legally required
- Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, where processing is necessary for security, abuse prevention, service operation, or basic support
- Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR, where processing is required to comply with legal obligations
Website
Website hosting and delivery
The website is currently published via GitHub Pages. When you access the site, technical request data such as IP address, time of access, browser information, and requested files may be processed by the hosting and delivery infrastructure in order to deliver the site securely and reliably.

Analytics on the website
The website currently does not intentionally use a separate third-party analytics script for visitor measurement.
Contact by email
If you contact Fluently by email, the data you provide in your message, such as your email address, your name, and the contents of your request, will be processed to answer your request and document the communication where necessary.

Android app
Local data stored on your device
Fluently stores data locally on your device in order to provide the app’s core functions. Depending on how you use the app, this may include:
- vocabulary lists and vocabulary entries
- progress data such as levels, favorites, hard words, and practice sessions
- profile settings such as display name, image path, selected practice background, and language preferences
- app settings such as theme mode, onboarding state, daily goal progress, streaks, reminder time, and review prompts
- widget state needed to show Momentum and Hard Words widgets
Purpose:
- provide the app’s learning functions
- preserve your settings and progress
- power reminders and widgets

Account registration and sign-in
If you create a cloud account, Fluently currently uses Firebase Authentication and Firebase Realtime Database. When you register or use account-related features, the following data may be processed:
- email address
- password credential handled by Firebase Authentication
- username
- user ID
- profile image reference, if you set one
Purpose:
- account creation
- sign-in
- password reset
- email verification
- linking your profile to cloud features

Community and cloud features
Fluently uses Firebase services for community and cloud-related features. Depending on your usage, this can include:
- published lists and related metadata
- community list browsing and downloads
- cloud profile information
Fluently currently uses Firebase Firestore and Firebase Realtime Database for these features.
Purpose:
- enable community list discovery and publishing
- load and manage cloud-based app content

Firebase Analytics
The app uses Firebase Analytics to measure app usage, screen views, and feature interactions. Based on the current implementation, Fluently logs screen views and app events in order to understand product usage and improve the app.

Advertising and advertising consent
Fluently uses Google AdMob to display ads. The app also uses Google’s User Messaging Platform to gather and manage ad-related consent where required by law. Depending on your device, region, and consent choices, AdMob may process data such as device identifiers, approximate location, app interactions, advertising data, and diagnostic information.
You can review available privacy choices for ads in the app under Profile → Manage ad consent.

Notifications
If you enable reminders, Fluently stores your reminder preferences locally on your device and schedules a daily local notification. The app also uses the Android notification permission on supported Android versions.
Purpose:
- send daily practice reminders you requested

Widgets
If you place Fluently widgets on your home screen, the app processes local learning data on your device to show summaries such as streaks, daily goal status, weekly progress, or hard words.

Camera and gallery access
Fluently offers optional image selection and camera capture for profile and vocabulary-related images. This happens only if you actively choose those features.

- let you add or update images in the app

Security and integrity
The app uses Firebase App Check with Play Integrity in release builds to help protect backend resources from abuse.

Recipients and service providers
Depending on how you use Fluently, personal data may be processed by the following providers:
- GitHub for website hosting and delivery
- Google Firebase for authentication, database, Firestore, analytics, and app integrity features
- Google AdMob for advertising
- Google Play Services where required for app-related Google services
International transfers
Some of the providers used for Fluently may process data outside the European Union or European Economic Area, including in the United States. Where this happens, transfers may be based on adequacy decisions, standard contractual clauses, or other safeguards used by the relevant provider.
Storage periods
Fluently does not keep all data for the same amount of time.
- Website support emails are kept for as long as necessary to handle the request and any related legal follow-up.
- Local app data remains on your device until you delete it, clear app data, or uninstall the app.
- Cloud account data remains associated with your account until it is deleted, unless retention is required for legal reasons or temporary backups.
- Analytics, advertising, and infrastructure logs may be retained according to the retention settings and policies of the providers involved.

If you want to remove local app data stored on your own device, Fluently also provides a Clear local data option inside the app’s Profile screen. Local deletion on the device and cloud account deletion are separate actions.
Your rights
Subject to the legal requirements, you may have the right to:
- request access to your personal data
- request rectification of inaccurate data
- request deletion of your data
- request restriction of processing
- object to processing based on legitimate interests
- receive data portability where applicable
- withdraw consent at any time for future processing where processing is based on consent
- lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority

Obligation to provide data
You are not generally required to provide personal data just to visit the website. However, some app functions cannot work without the relevant data, for example:
- an email address and account credentials for cloud sign-in
- reminder settings for notifications
- optional image data if you choose to add profile or vocabulary images
Automated decision-making
Fluently does not intentionally use fully automated decision-making within the meaning of Art. 22 GDPR based on the information reviewed here.
Changes to this notice
This privacy notice may be updated when Fluently’s features, providers, or legal requirements change. The version published on this website is the current version.
